Snorkeling on Curaçao

Curaçao is one of the most popular diving destinations in the Caribbean. Visibility there averages more than 30 meters. There are as many as 60 dive sites on Curaçao. You will find many dive stores and diving schools.

Curacao snorkeling is also popular. This is not so surprising. The weather and water temperatures mean you can snorkel virtually year-round. It always averages between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius. The water temperature also averages around 27 degrees! Moreover, you usually have little trouble with waves and currents.

In addition, thanks in part to the volcanic rocks and coral reefs, the marine life is extremely varied, colorful and unique. The reefs are also very close to shore. You can encounter dolphins, sea turtles, and giant manta rays in addition to various coral fish. Most snorkeling spots are also easily accessible from the beach. So you walk right into the water with your snorkel and goggles in hand.

Curaçao's three most beautiful snorkeling spots listed:

1- Tugboat Beach

Tugboat is one of the most famous diving and snorkeling spot on the island. Just five meters deep, Tugboat lies on the bottom.

The wreck that sunk here thirty years ago lies right on the bottom and is covered with beautiful, colorful coral. Near Tugboat is another docking station that has been here for ages making it a kind of industrial area underwater. Because of this, you can see a lot here while snorkeling so don’t forget to bring your underwater camera for the perfect picture!

2- Playa Kalki

A westernmost beach in Curaçao. This is called Playa Kalki and is adjacent to the resort of Kura Hulanda. This beach has white sand and you can use the beach beds here for free. It is relatively small and narrow beach but the view is phenomenal. You’re in the middle of nature and you have an excellent restaurant with it. Snorkeling here is special because the water gets deep very quickly but your visibility is many meters while snorkeling. You will find many different colored fish here. This beach really enchants you!

3- Playa Piskado

Tortoises almost always present! This beach at the western tip is also known as Playa Grandi, the fishermen’s beach. It is certainly not the most beautiful or comfortable beach to lie on, but would you like to snorkel among the turtles? Then the really is a must! Local fishermen here bring in their freshly caught fish through the pier and clean them immediately. The parts of the fish that they cannot use they throw back into the sea. The turtles love this and are always present because of it. Quickly put on your goggles and enjoy the spectacle!
